About Me

My Story

BACKGROUND:

JANEENE LOVELL, FOUNDER OF

JL MENTAL PERFORMANCE

Sports, in almost all forms,  have been at the forefront of my life.  I have personally participated in basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball,  field hockey, water polo, swimming, snowboarding, and surfing but ultimately I had to choose a speciality if I were going to continue at the collegiate level.   I played Division 1 Women’s Basketball for University of San Diego and for a short time played overseas in Ipswich England, where I retired from basketball following my second ACL tear.

My educational background is in Sports Psychology and Sociology, which had led me to complete the Mental Performance Mastery Certification Course.   I am a Certified Yoga instructor and have been practicing Yoga for 17 years and Meditation since 2008.   I have four children who have been my focus over the last 18 years providing me with a new set of instruments to add to my coaching toolkit.

JL Mental Performance Coaching Program provides comprehensive direction for athletes seeking to achieve an elite mindset.    Through self-reflection and visualization techniques, athletes can improve their focus, discipline and overall performance.  My passion for all sports combined with my mental/emotional dedication has given me insight on how to eliminate the negative habits and patterns of the mind that keep athletes from achieving their highest goals and ambitions.

JL Mental Performance provides a Core Value approach to athleticism: good habits, consistence and clarity of vision. Our goal is to help athletes practice the emotional and mental  skill sets just as they would the physical skill sets, to ultimately help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

MY SPECIALITIES:

The most unique part of my program is my specialty and focus on visualization.  The greatest depth of my coaching experience  is in gymnastics, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and surfing.

JLCoaching also offers support for athletes with eating disorders, self-image issues, mental blocks as well as a unique approach for athletes to overcome past trauma, either from the demands of their sport, abusive coaching, or parenting.    As a parent of four children with multiple athletic endeavors and at various levels of commitment, I also offer services to parents looking for guidance on how to raise athletes.  There is a balance between encouragement and over-exuberance, which may create more harm than good.
